WEDNESDAY JUNE 2ND AT 8PM (EDT) / 5PM (PDT)
Dahil ang lakas mo, sis! Keep your strength. You've got lots of it. In this spoken word
poetry workshop, we'll explore the question: What does being Pilipino mean to you,
especially in this time of rising Asian hate? How do we tap into our fierceness and our
inner strength as we deal with isolation, fear and uncertainty?
Imagine yourself surrounded with an intimate circle of Pin@ys as we celebrate and
unpack our relationship with ourselves, our community, and our home country. We'll
then each perform a spoken word piece, celebrating the melody of our accents, our
voices, and our bodies. Get ready to own your story, unapologetic.
This event is hosted in partnership with Sheilah Madonna M. Salvador, a mature
student at the University of Toronto, writer, and spoken word artist. Sheilah's poetry
has been featured in Mnerva Magazine, The Hamthology, and she was shortlisted at
the Eden Mills poetry contest in 2018. She is currently working on a book about the
Massacre of Manila. Learn more about Sheilah here.
Own your story and show us your inner fierceness!
